Acceptable use policy
Last updated: Effective: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
This policy is part of our Terms of Service. It applies to everyone who uses Playbuy, and to all content uploaded, imported or shown through it. It sits alongside Shopify's own Acceptable Use Policy, which also applies to your store. If the two differ, follow the stricter rule.
1. Content you may not upload or show
You must not upload, import, tag or display content that:
- you do not have the rights to use, including other people's videos, music, images, trademarks or likenesses without permission;
- is sexually explicit, or sexualizes minors in any way;
- shows or promotes child abuse, terrorism, violent extremism or human trafficking;
- harasses, threatens, bullies or incites violence or hatred against people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or similar characteristics;
- shows graphic violence or self-harm, or encourages dangerous acts;
- is false or misleading about products, including fake reviews or testimonials, undisclosed paid or gifted endorsements, or health, financial or performance claims you cannot support;
- promotes or sells products or services that Shopify's Acceptable Use Policy prohibits, or that are illegal where they are offered;
- reveals other people's private information, such as contact details, ID documents or health information, without a lawful basis;
- contains malware, or tries to run scripts or collect data from shoppers; or
- is otherwise unlawful.
2. People in your videos
- Get permission from every identifiable person who appears or is heard in your videos, including customers, creators, models and staff, for the use you make of the video on your store.
- Get a parent's or guardian's permission before showing a minor, and follow any extra rules that apply where you sell.
- Clearly disclose any material connection, such as payment, free products or affiliate commission, with a creator who endorses your products, as advertising rules require.
3. Content from Instagram, TikTok and other platforms
Playbuy imports social media content only through each platform's official API, from accounts you own or manage and connect yourself. We do not scrape platforms. When you import content:
- Only import content you have the right to use on your store. Content posted on your own account may still include music, footage or people that you need separate permission for. Licences for music on a social platform often do not cover use on your own website.
- User-generated content needs the creator's permission. Being tagged in, or reposting, someone else's post does not give you the right to use it on your store. Get the creator's permission, ideally in writing, before showing it.
- Follow the platform's rules. You must follow the terms, community guidelines and developer and branding policies of the platform the content comes from, including Meta's and Instagram's terms and, when TikTok import becomes available, TikTok's terms.
- Remove content when you no longer have the right to use it, for example if a creator withdraws permission or deletes the original post and your permission depended on it. Disconnecting a platform does not delete videos you already imported; delete them in the dashboard if needed.
- Do not connect an account you are not authorized to manage.
4. Using the Service properly
You must not:
- send fake or automated events, or otherwise inflate views, clicks, add-to-carts or attributed revenue, for your store or anyone else's;
- try to get around plan limits, for example by using several installs or accounts for one store;
- access, or try to access, another merchant's data or account;
- probe, scan or test the security of the Service, or of stores using it, except under our responsible disclosure policy;
- overload, disrupt or interfere with the Service, our providers or Shopify, or use it to send spam;
- use the Service to collect shoppers' personal data beyond what it is designed to collect, or to track shoppers without the consent the law requires;
- copy, resell, scrape or reverse engineer the Service, except where the law allows; or
- use video hosting in the Service for anything other than showing videos on your Shopify store, such as general file storage or hosting for other websites.
5. What we do about breaches
- We do not review all content before it goes live, but we may review content when we receive a report or suspect a breach.
- We may remove or disable content, disconnect an integration, suspend widgets or suspend or close an account. We will usually tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem, unless the breach is serious, illegal or harms others, or the law prevents us from telling you.
- We may report illegal content to the authorities, and will report child sexual abuse material as the law requires.
- If you think we acted in error, reply to our notice or email us and we will look at it again.
6. Reporting a problem
To report content shown through Playbuy that breaks this policy or infringes your rights, email [CONTACT EMAIL] with a link to the page, a description of the content and why you are reporting it, and your contact details. For copyright complaints, please include the details listed in section 4 of our Terms of Service. To report a security vulnerability, email security@playbuy.app.
7. Changes
We may update this policy. We will post changes here and update the "Last updated" date, and tell merchants about material changes by email or in the dashboard.
